Getting good stadium shots is tough, especially when you’re the only sports photographer covering a match for your publisher. Sometimes you need to sacrifice the play to get up into the stands and get a nice wide point-of-view.
There’s that magic hour that any photographer will tell you happens at around dusk. The colours are subdued, the light is mystical and as the sun sets the clouds acts as a massive diffuser to help control the light.
I probably left this shot a little late as I really had to crank up the ISO to get as much available light as I could – hand held.
The Sydney Cricket Ground is and iconic building within the Sydney CBD and at night can really come alive with dramatic sunsets. I wasn’t lucky enough to get a nice clear sky, but the drama in these clouds lends itself to a much more dramatic image.
